The Town
of Taos, Taos Plaza Merchants, Big Brother’s Big Sisters of Northern NM, DMC
Broadcasting Inc. and The Taos News will be hosting a Children’s Halloween
Party, Haunted House and Trunk-or-Treat on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 3:00
PM to 7:00 PM at the Taos Plaza. The event will provide the children of
Taos with a fun, safe and supervised event. Everyone is welcome and admission
is FREE! The first 800 children will also receive a free Halloween bag
filled with treats and goodies.
There
will be various carnival games such as: Bean Bag Toss, Bowling, Tarot
Cards, Tic-Tac-Toe and Face Painting just to name a few.
Twenty-six
Taos Plaza Merchants will give out candy to trick-or-treaters from their
businesses as part of their annual tradition. Those businesses are:
Artwares, At Home in Taos, Charles Collins Gallery #2 McCarthy Plaza, Coyote
Club, Frank Secker Gallery, Hotel La Fonda Taos, Indian Hills Jewelry, Inc.,
Martinez Art, Mesa’s Edge, Mosaic Fine Dining, Natural Accents Gallery, Open
Space, Sage Fine Art, Smoke Signals, Sun Shades and Optics, Taos Accessories,
Taos Community Center’s Coop, Taos Mercantile, Taos Mountain Candles (2
locations), Taos Mountain Outfitters, Taos Trading Company, The Chocolate
Factory, The Gorge Bar & Grill, The I Love Taos Company and The Village
Shop.
DMC
Broadcasting Inc. will have a trailer transformed into a haunted house.
Twelve local businesses will provide a decorated “trunk” full of treats for
trick-or-treating which are: Albertson’s, Brown and Brown Insurance,
Central Regional Transit District, Choice Wireless, Desert Sun Motors, Friday
Chevrolet, Guadalajara Grill, Holy Cross Hospital, Kit Carson Energy, Lisa B.
Gallegos Agency, Randall Lumber and Taos Mountain Casino. There will be
lots of games, lots of prizes, lots of candy and a whole lot of
fun!
There
will be special performance provided by Dead Elvis from 4:00 PM to 4:25 PM. There will be a
costume contest for each of four age groups. Prizes will be awarded to
the child with the Most Original Costume, Funniest Costume and Best
Costume. Children ages 2 and under will be judged at 3:30 PM, 3-5 year
olds at 4:15 PM, 6-8 year olds at 5:00 PM, and 9-12 year olds at 5:45 PM.
On
October 7, 2014 the Taos Town Council voted to support the Children’s Halloween
Party and to allow the closure of the Taos Plaza to vehicular traffic.
Taos
Plaza will be closed from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM; however, the Taos Plaza Merchants
will be open to foot traffic. FREE event parking will be available at our
Lady of Guadalupe Church, Loretto Parking Lot, Town Hall and Taos Public
Library. AFTER 5:00 PM all metered parking lots will be free. For
handicap parking and for people requiring ADA access to the event there will be
extra parking at Guadalupe Parking Lot, and a designated area next to the
McCarthy Parking Lot directly behind the old County Courthouse. After
5:00 PM the US Bank Parking Lot will also be available for handicap parking and
for people requiring ADA Parking. We are estimating an attendance of over
1,500.
