Library Undergoing Budget Cuts
The director of the Taos Public Library, George Jaramillo, recently composed a letter to the Friends of the Taos Public Library Board. In liu of a public announcement on the front page of today's Taos News, we are posting the letter to the Friends, as follows:

Magazine Table Is Discontinued
Unfortunately, the library is not immune to budget woes. Due to cutbacks, we will no longer have the personnel time to maintain the magazine table nor to receive and sort the magazine donations. From now on, we’ll ask you to bring all your unwanted periodicals to the recycling center.
We regret not being able to continue this service that so many in our community enjoy. However, this is one of the difficult choices we are facing.

Tax Forms & Booklets
We now have the 1040, 1040A, !040EZ, and the state PIT1, tax forms & booklets, in the lobby. We have other forms as well. Whatever you can't find, you can download from the IRS website. Ask a reference librarian for assistance if you're unsure how to do it.

Think Books Become Bestsellers Just Because They're Popular? Think Again!
I hate to break the news to our patrons but the bestseller lists are somewhat rigged. As an author who took advantage of the perfectly legal system writes: "Theoretically, as long as one has enough money to purchase 3000 of their
own books while using the tactics of a bestseller campaign to do so, they are
basically guaranteed bestseller status." The name of at least one of those games is a company that, for a price, will buy your books via a formula that will not be detected by the bestseller rankers who are supposed to be able to weed out these tricks.
