Reading Trends of Young Adults

According to a report from Pew Research Center's Internet and American Life Project, 8 out of 10 young adults age 16-29, have read a book in the last year. That's compared with 7 out of 10 adults reading a book in the last year. The findings of this report are meant to be positive, but I find them a little discouraging. There's no mention of how many books were read in one year. One book is not much!
While young readers are using e-readers, they are used more as a supplement to reading books. Having preloaded e-readers (which may be rented) in the library, have shown to be  an effective way to get younger readers excited about reading.
Taos Public does not have e-readers available for rent at the moment. Maybe something to be looked into...
Here's the full story from NPR.
