Taos Town Council Approves Annual Library Card Fee

Last night the Taos Town Council unanimously approved the charging of an annual library card fee of $10.00 to Taos county residents. This charge will take effect on July 1st.

Spring Clean Up Day

Today, all the Town of Taos employees, including us librarians worked hard all morning to spruce up the town. I don't know how many garbage bags we filled, but it was a lot! It felt good to see Paseo much cleaner than when we began.
By 1 pm, the library was open and judging by the size of the crowd, patrons were anxious to stock up on their fav books and flicks for the long weekend.

Taos News: Town of Taos Seeking County Funds To Avoid Charging For Library Cards

Taos town leaders are asking the county for help as the town tries to avoid charging people for library cards. 

Mayor Darren Córdova and town manager Oscar Rodríguez went before the Taos County Commission Tuesday (May 21) to request supplemental library funding. The town currently pays for most of the library’s operations from its general fund. 

A $10 annual fee for adult residents of the county was proposed to avoid more significant cuts to the library’s budget. The town expected the fee to generate $120,000 in the coming fiscal year, or about 21 percent of the library’s projected $566,000 budget. 

However, Córdova said in a phone interview Wednesday (May 22) he has directed Rodríguez to try to “avoid (even a nominal fee) if possible

Summer Lecture Series Continues This Saturday: Flying High and River Running

Join us this Saturday, May 18th, 1:30-2:30 pm, as Ed Smith, Pueblo Balloon Company Owner, and Cisco Guevara, Los Rios Rafting Owner, team up to present their adventures in 
Hot Air Ballooning and River Rafting. Flying over the gorge or rafting 
down the river is an exhilarating experience people find hard to 
describe.
 Ed has flown hot air balloons since 1991 and has flown across 
the country from North Carolina to Arizona and still finds flying over the
Rio Grande Gorge one of the best.
 Cisco in addition to owning Los Rios is recognized as an outstanding storyteller and he continues in the day-to-day operations of all rafting tours. Each will talk about their
experiences and what it takes to be a professional hot air balloon and
rafting guide.

Tai Chi Master Richard Leirer to Kick-off Summer Lecture Series

Richard Leirer is one of the most experienced and accomplished Qigong teachers in the US. He has been a serious student and practitioner of the internal arts for over 40 years. He is considered by many to be one of the few American Qigong Masters. Richard has an ongoing Tai Chi/Qigong therapy program for pain management and surgery rehabilitation at the world famous Cleveland Clinic hospital. It is the only program like it in the United States.
 Richard now lives and teaches in Taos, New Mexico. Leirer will describe the history and 
demonstrate the ancient art of Qigong and its effectiveness for pain management.
